Hope I didn't mess the links up...right Geek pride time
time to
spread the videogame soundtrack love (many thanks to dkid for putting many of these up enabling me to let you hear em) brace yourself, there's even a 4hero
connection in some of the tunes.
Always been big on the pixels but ever since a special rained out summer holiday in a Cornish gaming nirvava (and run down amusement park next to the beach)
playing an ultra rare Rave Racer cabinet, next to a worn but still working Outrun (Magical Sound Shower!) and of course Virtua Fighter in the mid 90s, and on
my first games console, Yuzo Koshiro's inspiring music in Streets of Rage 1 & 2.
Attack the Barbarian - throwing the small goons at the bosses is so much fun, best part of this game is in 2 player when the end boss offers ONE of you the
chance to join him, making you fight one another, only to still betray the player left standing, well evil.

Slow Moon (from the sequel, pub fights have never been so classy!)

Alien (you've got alien power
)

Bryant siblings always had the best music in the Virtua Fighter games, best of all in the sequel composed by Takayuki Nakamura which I played religiously on
the Sega Saturn
Chicago (first time I added up Chicago with true badassery)

For a long while I always associated electronic music with fighting games 'stage' music, racing games 'track' music, got me into music, and
been getting back into it recently with Ridge Racer 2 and Ace Combat X (all new music late 90s stylee) both series had great music thanks to the Namco Sound
Team. Rave Racer first hinted at a more cohesive style emerging with the drum & bass influenced theme E XH Notes by Sanodg:
[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p0ZHyNTx9o was any of this ever played back inthe jungle days, I'm getting teary eyed even thinking about this one.
And I don't even remember this track but Jazz Mission sounds real fine (shame it isn't on the PSP remake)

However for me its with the well 'ard Rage Racer (my very first playstation game back in late 97, ahh the memories) when Hiroshi Okubo emerges as Sound
Director and things step up another gear, Silver Stream and Lightning Luge are absolute classics for me, if you haven't heard them before, you're in
for a treat.
Silver Stream - drifting on a Greek coast, beautiful just beautiful.

Lightning Luge - for when things get tense in those later stages

It wasn't just Okubo_san working wonders at Namco, Ace Combat series has great music as well, try 'Alert' out by Tetsukazu Nakanishi:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO1BM3Yid38 shame this game was cut in half for the Western release,
least most of the music survived.
The 4hero influence really comes through with Night Stream by Kohta this dual tribute in the 2004 compilation title on Playstation Portable (Vertical Stand is
me trying to put them onto it btw) check:
